NSW: AFIC does nto have authority to sack mufti: Trad
A Muslim community leader has questioned the power of the Australian Federation of
Islamic Councils to sack Sheik TAJ EL-DIN AL HILALY as mufti.
Fairfax newspapers report the federation has abolished the role of mufti .. cut all
ties with the controversial sheik .. and stopped paying his salary.
But KEYSAR TRAD .. president of the Islamic Friendship Association .. says the AFIC
doesn't have the authority to sack the man it made mufti back in 1989.
Mr TRAD's told Sky News the AFIC hasn't paid the sheik since it went into administration
last year .. and is only trying to show it remains relevant after starting up again two
months ago.
He says a board of imams from all over Australia is making a decision about the position
of mufti .. and AFIC's action is gratuitous and presumptuous.
He says Sheik AL HILALY is the most qualified person to be mufti of Australia .. and
is unaware of what's happening because he's at a conference in Turkey.
