FED: Surgeon's wife to accept posthumous award

Late cancer surgeon CHRIS O'BRIEN will be posthumously appointed an Officer of the
Order of Australia in a ceremony today.

Professor O'BRIEN died of a brain tumour in June at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
.. the same hospital where he worked fighting cancer in others.

Governor-General QUENTIN BRYCE will present Professor O'BRIEN's wife .. GAIL .. with
the insignia of the appointment at 2pm (AEST) in a ceremony at Admiralty House.

The AO notes his contribution to medicine and advocacy of healthcare .. particularly
the establishment of the 1.3 billion-dollar Lifehouse Centre at the hospital.
