KDDI of Japan joins Google in phone dealBRIEFING

Looking east as it expands into the mobile Internet, Google reached a deal with a Japanese mobile operator, KDDI, on Thursday and was in talks with China Mobile, which has more customers than any other operator.Google, the most-used Web search engine, and KDDI will offer Internet search services in Japan via cellphone starting in July, KDDI said.Customers also will be able to view content usually aimed at personal computers through the new search service, which will insert text advertisements based on searches. Separately, China Mobile's chairman and chief executive, Wang Jianzhou, said talks with Google were advancing, but he did not elaborate on the scope or technical details of any deal.
