Since it's launch on January 15th of this year, OfficeDepot's World Wide Web store has been such a hit with small office/home office customers that it has stepped up efforts to market to the SOHO category through targeted promotions, according to company reports. Currently, officedepot.com is a featured sponsor in Yahoo!'s front page promotion, SOHO 2000 which features an online guide and contest opportunities for small office web users.
Officedepot.com enables customers to shop 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and in most cases, to receive purchases the next business day. According to Keith Butler, Office Depot online executive director of marketing and merchandising, the most successful small businesses use the web as a time and cost-efficiency tool. A recent national survey conducted by American City Business Journals, found that 42 percent of small businesses that regularly use the internet have an annual growth rate of 11 percent or higher over the past three years. Just 27 percent of other small businesses experienced that rate of growth.
